G1 Goods Fall/Winter 2011 {Showroom Visit}

Even though I’ve been impatiently waiting for summer’s arrival for what has seemed like an eternity, I’m somehow also excited about the G1 Goods Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Can’t a girl have it all?
I was first put on to G1 back in March by Nico over at The Bengal Stripe, when he posted about the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. From what I could tell from that campaign, I knew I immediately needed to investigate the line. Billed as a “women’s clothing line that prides itself on providing timeless clothes for the modern woman with everlasting style,” I definitely noticed that the aesthetic was more than a little up my alley. I was also very pleased to also find out G1 is based in my hometown of Los Angeles.
While I enjoyed the S/S line with its easy linen and soft cotton, I feel that F/W is where G1 really shines. I’m a big fan of designer Yoonah Shoji’s attention to detail, use of interesting textures, and her inclination towards a look that feels like “city huntswoman” for the colder months. Shoji designs the kind of clothes that she would like to wear herself, and luckily enough she and I are of the same mind. As someone who lives in a field jacket and adores patch pockets, tweed and elbow patches, is it any wonder I fell in love with this collection?

While G1 is sometimes billed as “menswear for women,” I feel this description truly sells the line short. I believe that Shoji’s designs are not inherently masculine or feminine, but a masterful balancing of what is conventionally considered as such. Shoji creates truly timeless clothing that could be worn by a 13 year-old girl, her mother and her grandmother, alike.
I dropped by G1′s New York showroom to see the collection up close and personally, and as a result, G1 has me wanting to bundle myself up right. now. Hmm, perhaps I should move to the southern hemisphere. I hear Brazil is lovely…

Wow, great collection! In love with the details and elbow patches. And I need the Field Marshal Coat in my closet. Bonus points for being an LA designer too.
Great post and photos, M!

I’ll take 100 of everything please! x
