Louis Vuitton Men’s S/S 2011 featuring Scott Campbell (Paris, Part II)

Artist Scott Campbell returns in the second installment of the Louis Vuitton video diptyque featuring their men’s S/S 2011 lines. After leaving New York for parts unknown, we catch up with Scott as he arrives to CDG. We follow Scott as he drops by the LV haute couture luggage offices and reviews the plans for a custom case (the monogram case with the bright turquoise hardware! make it mine!), passes by Cafe De Flore in the 6th and makes his way to Deyrolle in the 7th. We also catch a more in-depth look at the fashion line while Scott sketches in what looks like the LV atelier.
Even though I was just in Paris, watching this short immediately made me want to go back. As I am only a quick Eurostar ride away from Paris this week…le désir est très grand! Unfortunately I will not be making it to the continent on this go around, so I will have to attempt to make do watching Scott. Can we please pause for a moment and note how much I enjoy the juxtaposition of the high fashion and the tattoos? J’adore beaucoup the open shirt collar!

Louis Vuitton hits the high notes with the first installment in a “video diptyque” (aka two part series) that introduces their men’s spring/summer 2011 collections. Vuitton has seized upon visual and tattoo artist Scott Campbell as the embodiment of the upcoming season — with good reason, as he collaborated on the collection — and we are treated to view a day in his life. It’s got a little bit of everything: a run across what looks like the Manhattan Bridge, his creative studio space, paper cut art and printmaking, the beautiful artwork on his body, an adorable dog, an abundance of the Damier Graphite Canvas collection (Sidenote: I really, really, REALLY think there ought to be a choice selection of women’s pieces in Damier Graphite Canvas. It isn’t fair for the men to have it all to themselves. Are you listening, LV?), a sweet motorcycle, bookstore meandering, a voyage to a mysterious location via CDG, lots of beautiful luggage and amazing clothes.
Stay tuned. We’ll catch up with Scott later.
Monica Bellucci for Dolce&Gabbana Martini Gold

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are primed to unveil their cinematic campaign for their first foray into spirits – Martini Gold. Set to play in select cinemas around the world in late October, the trailer-esque ad was shot by director Jonas Akerlund (favored by Lady Gaga and Madonna) in Rome and stars the ever-gorgeous Monica Bellucci. For those unable to wait for the “theatrical” release, D&G have released a trailer (for the trailer, ha!).
Items of note: inspiration from Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, Domenico and Stefano at the table with Bellucci in the cafe, the fact that Bellucci gave birth to daughter Léonie SIX weeks before shooting this… Oh yes, and did I mention the fact that she’s 45?
The Ralph Lauren Way To While Away Those Summer Hours
August 20th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
Quite Continental loves a good Ralph Lauren advert. The galloping polo ponies, the tousled hair, the long grass, the golden lab puppies, the freshly scrubbed faces… Among my favorites are the Nacho Figueras Polo ads, in which the polo star attempts to smolder while wearing outfits of varying believability, usually holding something nonsensical.
Since I can’t find my favorite one in which he is smoldering in an office cradling a trumpet, you can see Nacho in a relatively tame one:
I am saddened by my loss on the polo field, but I am feeling comforted by the abundance of cashmere cable knit and wool herringbone that surrounds me.
It seems like Ralphie knows that summer hours in the office can be unbearable and has created a little something for those of us stuck at our desks yearning to be outdoors frolicking in the summer sun wearing immaculate preptastic outfits…OR really, for those of us who would fancy making their very own Ralph Lauren montage commercial. The marketing campaign for the new Big Pony fragrance by Ralph Lauren allows you to do just that. Head here and see your Ralph Lauren dreams come to life. You can also upload them and compete with other people’s short films, but Quite Continental prefers just to while away the hours with the pretty playthings.
