I am reasonably sure that Zara has figured out the surefire way to get my attention is to use Stella Tennant, who I honestly adore with a ferocity that might alarm some. But really, think about it…
- She’s forty. FORTY!
- She comes in just under six feet tall
- That body has given birth to four – count them, FOUR! – children
- Her ancestors are titled Scottish gentry
Add all that to her signature, androgynous look, and I’m nursing a serious girlcrush. She also kind of makes me want to chop all my hair off.
But only for a second.
Zara is all Katharine Hepburn-y turtlenecks and smart suiting/blazers for fall, and I couldn’t be more pleased. While there is a preponderance of black and grey, I like how they’ve also retained some of their fun use of colors from S/S. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Zara for years, and it’s great to be a fan of theirs for two seasons in a row. Now, when sister brand Massimo Dutti finally opens up shop on Fifth Avenue, Zara might get a run for my money, but if they keep this narrative going, I see no reason why there isn’t enough of me to go around. My Amex may disagree, on the other hand…

Noted that there has been quite a bit of Dree Hemingway on the blog lately…decided I was okay with that…especially when she’s modelling for one of my favorite designers…and looks this dapper.

Oh my. Can we talk about the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2011 campaign? Aside from the somewhat ill-advised skullcap/visor combo hat, the shots of this collection are simply arresting. Loving the icy, jewel-toned ladies and their vacation to somewhere cold, yet glamorous. I also didn’t realize until just now how badly I need to add a beautiful antique Jag to my life…

I’ll admit it.
I’ve got a huge crush on the S/S 2011 Hackett man.
For more, head over to Hackett.
Around since the early 80s, Hackett’s traditionalism and thoroughly British feel resonates deeply with me. I was first initiated into the Hackett world on a trip to London last year. With no prior knowledge of the brand and lured in purely on the strength of their windows, I visited the Covent Garden location and was immediately delighted…and then disappointed to find they do not design for women nor do they have any boutiques in the states. That means that for now, my love for Hackett will be unrequited and from a distance. C’est la vie! I shall be comforted by daydreams of driving through the countryside with Mr. Hackett. His natty clothes are only very slightly disheveled as we’ve got the top down on the Jag and the sun is on my bare shoulders, whispering that summer is just around the next bend…

So looking forward to the opportunity to wear Michael Bastian’s first-ever GANT collection for women this spring. If you haven’t yet visited the GANT site to check out the interactive campaign, I definitely recommend you head over for a few beautiful moments. Most arresting is the short film shot to introduce the S/S 2011 collections – A Love Story.
Bastian’s S/S 2011 is embodied by a gorgeous couple in love, captured in various locales. He is an all-American baseball player, she is a glamorous film siren (remind you of anyone?), and the chemistry between them — mon dieu! The clothes are completely lovely — classic and nostalgic, without looking dated. I had high hopes for this collection and Bastian completely delivered. My pocketbook has officially been placed on high alert.

Banana Republic launches its first film campaign in honor of its Spring 2011 line. Featuring Jamie Dornan and Angela Lindvall, “Journey In Style” is definitely making me feel nostalgic for my hometown of Los Angeles. Hell, let’s pack up a vintage convertible and make for warmer climes. Who’s with me?!?

A film by Kinga Burza for Kate Spade New York
“this is the story of a charming girl
she laughs out loud, sings off key and believes in taking chances
she is quick and curious and playful and strong
she lets her imagination run away with her
she has never been one to stick to convention
she is fond of daydreams that take her places
she can order a cocktail in six different languages
she feels that understated is overrated”

GANT Rugger warms the preppy cockles of my heart on this snowy day with this campaign to promote their Spring/Summer 2011 men’s line. (FYI – warm weather cannot arrive any earlier for me!)
To view the rest of their lookbook, hop over to denimaniac. I’m definitely eying a few items myself…

Scarlett does her best Marie Antoinette at the Moët Chandon guesthouse Le Trianon in Épernay for the champagne maker’s 2011 campaign. Everything is just more fabulous with copious amounts of bubbly and ball gowns, isn’t it? Especially loving her strong red lip in a sea of greys, blues, dusty pinks, nudes and gold…
