**QC’s 28 Days**
In February I will be bringing you daily tips
to cultivate more classiness and fabulousness in daily life!
Day 7: Give Back
Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of class. Starting in 1948, she rose to fame through her work as an actress, but what set Ms. Hepburn apart from her peers was her profound dedication to humanitarian efforts. She is particularly remembered for her work as a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). On behalf of UNICEF, Ms. Hepburn travelled all over the world to alleviate the suffering of impoverished children. The picture above was taken in Somalia, just 4 months before her death in 1992 due to cancer.
When discussing the pursuit of a classy and fabulous life, the topic of charity must be included. To give back is classy. To find a cause you strongly feel about is fabulous. Ms. Hepburn’s commitment to UNICEF was an amazing undertaking and moving example for us all, but we must not lose sight of the fact there are many small charitable deeds that are easily accomplished.
One of my most important personal causes is clean and safe drinking water for people in developing countries. charity: water is a great organization with an interesting back story and a motivated leader in Scott Harrison. I became familiar with charity: water by attending monthly volunteer night events, but it is important to note that I could do a number of things to show my support for this growing non-profit: I could donate or raise money, I could buy tickets to the annual holiday gala, I could purchase items available in their online gift boutique, I could spread the word and publicize their good works, etc. Undoubtedly, once you find a cause you believe in, you will have similar opportunities at your fingertips.
Even if you don’t have a personal cause, ways to give back are easily found. Support your co-worker as she raises money for her marathon. Donate your gently used clothes and housewares to Housing Works. Contribute to your place of worship. Volunteer with New York Cares. Purchase a membership at your local museum. The possibilities are endless!
