MFW FW2011 Pick: Salvatore Ferragamo

15/03/2011 § 1 Comment

After a close survey of all that Milan had to offer, I’m ready to award my best in show to the Italian house that offered a symphony of business-like prints in shapes that were strong, yet feminine: Salvatore Ferragamo.

I’m not sure if someone clued-in Ferragamo on my love for all things houndstooth and professional, lest we unnecessarily accuse the house of stacking the deck in their favor — but in any event, the entire collection was permeated with the playful use of menswear-inspired prints in a limited palette (white, black, grey) paired with attention-grabbing bright red nails.  Plenty of suiting, blouses and pencil skirts: Ferragamo was all business!  Work wear can get staid — when next you wear a suit, think statement nails, glittering sky-high heels and a structured clutch.

More Ferragamo after the jump…

High note: Don’t be afraid to mix your patterns.  To be successful, keep to the same basic color family and use mostly small prints.  Go big on your topper, as in the overcoat here.

High note: Echoes of the patterned skirt in the handbag and pocket square.

Side note: How many business women do we think could get away with something this low cut and short? Hmm…

High note: Pinstriped heels

High note:  Trouser’s cropped length and volume.  When paired with the higher waist and the pinstripe, her legs look a mile long.

High note:  Oversize houndstooth – j’adore!

High note: Snow leopard print paired with a luxe fur.  Paging Alexis Carrington!

High note: Black velvet tux with a cropped trouser, sheer blouse, silk tie and a black fur coat?

Honorable Mentions: Giorgio Armani‘s cropped trouser.  Emilio Pucci‘s signature patterns.  Gianfranco Ferré‘s icy elegance.  Blumarine‘s vibrant solid colors.  Bottega Veneta‘s delicate lace and amazing gowns, like this one:

Beautiful! Pinstripe and houndstooth are old favorites that looks sexy and fresh here. I’m luving them again. I really like the low cut blouses…but yeah, where to wear that?
