A modern guide to creating a charmed life

…Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.
–Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, The Rainy Day

Day 17: Take Your Seasonal Accessories Seriously
Did you know that if you pay more than $100 for a pair of gloves, there is only a 7% chance you will misplace them?  Alright, I might have made that up,* but it is true if you take time to carefully select for your scarves and sunglasses, you will be less apt to leave them behind, and if you make an investment in quality goods, you will be longer served.

Yes, it is convenient to outfit yourself with bodega umbrellas and “pashminas” from streetside vendors, but eventually that umbrella will turn itself inside out and that scarf will unravel and you’ll be left, cold and wet, cursing your sub-par purchases.  Of course, purchasing more expensive items may mean you ultimately own fewer items, but a charmed life always values quality over quantity, and is deliberate in selecting accessories to complement one’s appearance.

So today, join me in tossing out those freebie tote bags and gas station sunnies.  It is high time we take our seasonal accessories seriously.

  • I completely agree. I purchased a pair of aviators a few years ago and spent about $75, which for my college student budget was very tight. However, I have a wide-ish face (hello, Asian) and these fit like a dream. It’s worth it to invest in items that you’ll hold onto and that fit really well. I’m hoping to buy another pair of sunglasses for this year, something a bit different—like a pair of Wayfarers or maybe the Clubmasters. (I love that you featured them; they have such a nice silhouette. Not sure if they’ll work with my round face though.)

    Have a great weekend!

Yes, strong umbrellas are a must! What do you think of Davek Umbrellas?
