Slide Into Spring

23/04/2015 § 2 Comments

gap slides

In reflecting upon how much desire these simple sneaks from Gap have just inspired, it’s entirely possible that New York has finally tipped my internal balance to 51% NY, 49% CA — because when I look at these I think SPRING!!!  Which is hilarious because they are black leather sneakers, says California me.  No, no, says New York me, can’t you see??  Shoes that aren’t boots that you can wear without socks? That’s practically a tropical vacation for our feet!

Controversy aside, these babies are a perfect transition from the recent winter of our collective discontent AND a perfect price to boot — $49.95 and an additional 35% off until tomorrow, 4/24 — so get while the getting is good, and we can be spring twins.

A few fall-flavored treats I have been eying lately.  While no means an exhaustive list, my taste has definitely been trending toward marled greys, rich leather and wine-colored accents.  I’m not sure if I can attribute a discernible, albeit slight, shift in my personal style to a change in my profession, but I’m definitely sensing it.  Case in point: where once I would default to a sort of shrunken schoolboy fit, I am now drawn to a boxier and more casually slung aesthetic.  You’ll note the lack of any Ralph Lauren in the above and the appearance of Helmut Lang and Alexander Wang.  Perhaps New York is finally creeping into my west coast meets east coast vibe.  Whatever it is, it has me excited for cooler temps, most definitely.

Good News/Bad News: RRL & Co.

RRL & Co serape shawl collar cardiganThe good news: this cardigan is amazing
The bad news: it’s going to set you back 7 bills*

This sweater is kind of like that really hot guy who’s always got a girlfriend — just mercilessly flirts with me whenever I walk by the RRL & Co flagship on West Broadway.  Completely shameless.  But I know he’s all talk, at least until I decide to put my money where my mouth is.  I suppose a little banter never hurt anyone.

If you’re ready to pull the trigger, you can find that amazing sweater here.  All I ask is that if you do make it yours, please don’t tell me.  Or get me one too.  Both would work, but of course I prefer the latter.  Everyone wins!

*Do people still say “bills” when referring to $100 or did I just date myself?

Lotuff Leather for the Ladies

16/11/2012 § 2 Comments

Very excited to share with you Lotuff Leather’s premiere offering from their very first women’s collection, released this week!  Just in time for the holidays the Zipper Satchel #9 is a limited edition bag in sumptuous, hunter green vegetable-tanned leather, that comes with a hand-braided leather tassel, a removable leather pouch, and a detachable shoulder strap.  Befitting a truly unique piece of superior craftsmanship, each bag bears its own serial number, and can also be monogrammed.  I definitely hope that Santa is listening.

Lotuff, a New England-based luxury leather goods brand founded by brothers Joe and Rick Lotuff, is a remarkable collective of exceptionally skilled craftsmen and women dedicated to making quality things by hand with the best practices and finest materials available.  A men’s brand at heart, Lotuff has offered some of the very finest American-made all-leather bags, briefcases and accessories for nearly four years now, and the move into the women’s space is best viewed as a continuation of that tradition.

Guided by creative director Lindy McDonough, the Lotuff women’s collection is quietly elegant and timelessly stylish – the diametric opposite of the “it bag.”  Rather, your Lotuff bag is meant to be carried a lifetime and then passed on to younger generations, and this longevity is ensured by the American workmanship that went into its creation.  I especially love the collection’s nuanced menswear influence and the casual sophistication evident in the preview lookbook – these bags intend to seamlessly carry you from the office to the weekend and back.  Perfection.

I recently had the immense pleasure of spending a lovely day at Lotuff’s Norwalk, Connecticut workshop.  It’s not every day that I get to spend time talking to gifted craftspeople about heady topics such as commitment, precision and passion, so when the folks at Lotuff Leather invited me to do just that, of course I leapt at the chance.  Stay tuned — I’ll be sharing my visit with you next week.

I’ve been on a mission for a new pair of sunnies lately, and these rounded keyhole beauties definitely caught my eye.  I’m especially loving that blond tortie in the middle, but for only $55 a pair, I’m apt to walk away with the lot.

Find them here.

Lovely Clare Vivier Flat Pouches with:
One stripe,
two stripes,
three stripes
(love the red, white and blue!)

The perfect size for your essentials, whether you are tossing them into your carry-on, your beach bag or simply want to travel light, these elegantly minimal flat pouches by Clare Vivier have me obsessed.  I love everything about them, from the warm tan of the leather to the contrast zippers and sporty stripes – but most of all, I love the fact that they are handmade in Los Angeles.
