Finally available at Dior.com for purchase, the limited edition F/W 2010 Dior Gris Vernis City Collection is an interpretation of the color grey for the “3 capitals of fashion and luxury: Paris, London and New York”
From left (via Dior):
- Bond Street, LONDON : A grey London fog infused with a touch of blue, urban chic…
- Gris Montaigne, PARIS : Sleek and elegant, the very iconic color of the Dior House.
- NY 57th, NEW YORK : A metallic asphalt, a homage to the dusky light of the Manhattan skyline.
This Fall, I was drawn to Gris Montaigne. I will admit I wasn’t an immediate fan of the grey trend for nails, but there is something very cool and refined about Gris Montaigne. While I saw shades of grey that had some ladies looking like they had slammed both hands in a door, this lacquer sparked a desire to change my usual routine. (Sidenote: I have signature shades for my own nails, depending on the season. I am an OPI devotee and almost always have on “Big Apple Red” (S/S), “I’m Not Really A Waitress” (F/W) or “I’m With Brad” (F/W). Sidenote to the sidenote: Who comes up with these names?)
As for Bond St and NY 57th, I can already hear my mother’s voice asking me why I have Halloween nails on — and it’s true, the colors are a bit to bold for my taste. But Gris Montaigne, the same neutral color as the House of Dior on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, strikes that perfect combination of classic and fashion forward.
Luckily, Gris Montaigne is a basic element of Dior Spring 2011 beauty, a collection of elegant pinks and greys so there is plenty of time for you to experiment with grey nails — but Gris Montaigne is still limited edition, so act fast. Aside from Dior.com, it’s currently available at Sephora and Nordstrom.
