A weekend to celebrate love:

J.Crew Origami pleated wool-crepe dress
Roberto Cavalli Alligator gold-plated Swarovski crystal cuff
J.Crew Daisylace Minaudiere
Kate Spade New York Stoney heels
The Row Oversized cat eye acetate sunglasses
My Go-To Red Lip: NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in Cruella
…and copious amounts of bubbly!

This weekend finds me in Los Angeles for a good friend’s wedding and so I have thrown together a somewhat midcentury modern, Betty Draper-inspired, emerald-infused party outfit featuring a rather dazzling alligator cuff — yes, I realize it completely breaks the bank, but it was so good I had to include it!  The neckline on this dress is fantastic, and demands a bare canvas — no necklaces or chandelier earrings, please.  Top it off with an updo, a precise cat eye and a crimson lip and you’re ready for cocktails with Don.

Other activities will include a bit of auntie duty, catching up with some west coast friends and relearning how to parallel park with my super sweet rental car.  If you have any recommendations for me, please do pass them along!  Since moving to New York five years ago, my Angeleno intel on what to do and where to go has probably grown a bit rusty.

Have a lovely weekend!
What will you be getting up to?

Sidenote:  You may have noticed I was a bit quieter than usual this weekend — not because I lacked anything to say, definitely — but more likely because of my awesomely full weekend hiking and camping, I felt a bit less inclined to sit in front of my computer for the next few days.  Add to that the preparations for trip I am currently on, the strategy sessions with Lani for Fashion Week, and the general realization that summer is coming to a close, it felt like a good time to take a step back from my usual routine and I am happy to say that I am really enjoying myself.  Regular posting will resume when I return to the city.  I’ve got tons to dish about and Fashion Week is going to be a blast!

QC Prêt-à-Porter || Blue Skies

A weekend to cross your fingers for blue skies…

Levi’s Made & Crafted brushed twill dress
Minnetonka moccasins
Drakes London paisley scarf
Timex Andros watch
Ray-Ban Clubmasters
Nars nail polish in Amchoor
J. Crew Biennial hobo

This week has been full of strange thunderstorms in New York and I’d really rather not spend this weekend ducking puddles and downpours, so please keep your fingers crossed that the 30% chance I see hovering over the next two days really is just meteorologist pessimism – I will be keeping my parapluie at the ready, however.

This weekend will include catching up with a few folks I’ve not seen in much too long, taking part in this year’s last  Summer Streets on Saturday, and a picnic on Governors Island for the Jazz-Age Lawn Party.

Aspirational goals include: dropping in to see the New Orleans meets New York interior of newly-opened East Village restaurant Exchange Alley – the Maxfield Parrish prints and lanterns salvaged from 17th century hearses are enough to pique my interest indeed – attending a bit of polo on Long Island, and taking care of some very overdue correspondence.

Of note/a mini Reading List:

QC Prêt-à-Porter || Perfectly Neutral

03/08/2012 § Leave a comment

Clean.  Basic.  Neutral.  Perfect.

Vintage Ray-Ban sunglasses
J.Crew perfect linen shirt
Jenni Kayne d’orsay flat in linen
Mulberry braided belt
Current/Elliot boyfriend cropped jeans
Timex x J.Crew vintage army steel watch
MANGO bi-colour shopper

While some cloudy days can definitely make me yearn for bright colors, there can be something perfect about embracing a minimalist palette.  This unfussy outfit makes me want to sip tea and curl up with the Sunday Times while listening to Morrissey, and then head uptown for a spot of lunch at J.G. Melon and a long overdue visit to the Frick.  And if these clouds keep up, this fantasy might just become a reality this weekend.

A weekend to wave a few flags about…

Archival Clothing women’s striped L/S tee
Barneys New  York CO-OP solid jean belt
Current/Elliot boyfriend jean
Lanvin Belgian loafter
Oliver Peoples J Gold oval-frame sunnies
Hermès Saut d’Obstacles silk twill scarf in blue
Nars nail polish in Chinatown
Archival Clothing large field bag (sold out, similar)

If you can’t already tell from the red/white/blue-fest above, I’m pretty excited for the 2012 Summer Olympics!  This Friday evening you’ll be able to find me parked in front of the telly, taking in all that London has on display.  Fingers crossed it doesn’t get all rained out!

Other items on the docket include: getting my Atticus Finch on at To Kill A Mockingbird at Film Forum on Saturday (1 show only!), going for a long run along the Hudson, and sneaking in a quick beach session, between the thunderstorms.

Aspirational goals include: AVOIDING the massively good sale at Maryam Nassir Zadeh (please, don’t even tell me if you pick up some of those Dieppa Restrepos, because then we’d officially be in a fight), crafting the perfect running playlist and wearing my new panama hat everywhere I go.  Well, maybe not to bed.  MAYbe.

QC Prêt-à-Porter || British Tan

23/07/2012 § Leave a comment

T by Alexander Wang washed twill shirt
Hill-side indigo bulls-eye scarf
Giles & Brother Archer gold-tone cuff
Toast Kinu maxi shirt
Warby Parker Ellery sunglasses in gimlet tortoise
Ernest Alexander Walker wax messenger in British tan
K Jacques St Tropez Gina patent-leather sandals

A break in the heat and men’s market week calls for a flowing maxi skirt and a bag big enough for all the essentials, in a lovely shade of tan.

This weekend was spent sitting in three different parks, drinking some delightfully fruity white wines and eating mahi tacos (woo hoo!) and discovering that I am quite excellent at throwing a Frisbee.  While the upcoming week promises a little rain, my goals include viewing the opening ceremonies of the London Summer Olympics, running at least three times and viewing Annie Hall before it closes at Film Forum (details here).

Have a lovely week!

The Dandy, The Rockstar & The Gentlewoman {Style Icons: Janie, Esther & Jeeyong}

17/07/2012 § 7 Comments

Janie Cai, Esther Quek and Jeeyong Kang.

Three amazing women, three distinct senses of personal style
that are heavily influenced by menswear.

Believe me when I say serious. girlcrush. (times three).

The Dandy — Janie Cai, fashion director, Esquire Singapore.

Janie is a lady who loves a good hat and a statement lapel (or accessory).  She’s eternally smiling — something of a rarity for streetstyle subjects — and her kits always feel like so much fun.  I’m especially digging her new haircut.

From Janie, take a carefree attitude and a love for nattily mixed textures…

The Rockstar — Esther Quek, fashion editor, The Rake.

Esther’s self-assured composure and amazing hair choices have me a bit intimidated, even from pictures.  But I love it.  She is a master of the necktie — and did you notice her tie bar game?  So, so good.  I love her approach to layering and pattern-mixing — and her omnipresent dark glasses?  Completely badass.

From Esther, take a sense of boldness and a love of color and contrast…

The Gentlewoman — Jeeyong Kang, fashion director, GQ Korea.

Of the three, Jeeyong’s sense of style is probably my favorite.  There is a calmness to the way she dresses — it is simple and elegant and communicates a sense of seriousness.

From Jeeyong, embrace a sense of confident simplicity.

QC Prêt-à-Porter || Lazy Weekend

A weekend to laze about…

Tretorn Nylites in green canvas
Rugby Nantucket rope bracelet
Brooks Brothers terry robe
Schwinn Legacy Cruiser
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray
Town & Country Magazine

A midweek business trip and a few early mornings left me a bit knackered this weekend, and with the temperatures showing no relief, I decided to take advantage of my newly refreshed A/C and my Apple TV and took it supremely easy.  The items above represent my essential ingredients this weekend.  I spent Saturday morning in my bathrobe, Rachel Zoe style, flipping through all of those magazines that I never seem to be able to get to and on Sunday I took out my lovely Schwinn (the same exact bike above, but mine is red and white), and rode all the way up to 110th along the west side bike path.

I also made time to try out a few new places in Battery Park City, namely, the Loopy Doopy Bar on the roof of the Conrad Hotel and North End Grill — I quite liked them both and if you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods be sure to check them out.  The Loopy Doopy’s views and the North End Grill’s scotch selection are definitely worth the trip.

Have a lovely week!

QC Prêt-à-Porter || Take Me Out To The Ball Game

05/07/2012 § 2 Comments

A weekend to enjoy the Great American Pastime…

Gucci straw boat hat
Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses
J.Crew Brompton raffia and leather clutch
K Jacques St Tropez Epicure multi-strap sandals
T by Alexander Wang racerback jersey tank
J.Crew Dapper striped linen-blend shorts

J.Crew lightweight gingham check cotton shirt
J.Crew Stanton cotton chino shorts
Ebbets Field Flannels twill ball cap
Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses
James Perse cotton t
Jack Purcell cotton-twill sneakers

This was a strange week, indeed.  With a midweek day off and our *third* heatwave of the summer (I’m no meteorologist, but err, maybe this is just…summer?) I spent a fun Fourth of July at a barbecue or two, sweating profusely.  So this weekend, with a trip to the ball game planned, as well as a day at the beach, my outfit choices are all about comfort and style at high temps.  I love the orange with the navy here, and those striped linen shorts are perfection for sitting in the stands and on the sand.

Aspirational goals include wearing a foam finger, purchasing new beach towels (I quite like these red striped ones, which you can monogram for just $6 extra!) and wearing my hair curly for a change.

You’ll also notice a matching “His” this week — although you could definitely catch me in either of these outfits, by the bye — something new I wanted to try out.  As I am somewhat sure I might have some male readers, I thought they might feel a bit left out looking at clutch bags all the time.

Here’s to a grand weekend!

QC Prêt-à-Porter || Just Beachy

Our second heatwave of the year?  You can find me at the beach…

J.Crew Linen Henley tunic
K. Jacques Flavia flat sandals
J.Crew oxford stripe bikini top & bottoms
Giles & Brother 10-karat gold-plated and leather wrap bracelet
Banana Republic Margaux Panama hat
Karen Walker Perfect Day sunglasses
Rag & Bone Simple Tote

With record high temps on the docket for the weekend, you can safely assume that I will be riding the beach ferry this weekend.  After a trip to the dermatologist this week — my first trip ever, please feel free to scold me — I will definitely be armed with a hat and oil-free sunscreen to protect my face.  Cancer risks aside, no one needs to look like beef jerky when they’re getting on in their years — definitely not charming.

Aspirational goals include sipping a fair amount of rosé, a pedicure with OPI’s  “I Eat Mainely Lobster,” and watching Alien — which I just realized is more than 30 years old at this point.  Sheesh.

Have a lovely weekend!

A weekend to celebrate Dads of all sorts…

Equipment washed silk shirt
J.Crew Faille mini skirt
Illesteva detachable front tortie sunglasses
Proenza Schouler PS1 leather and twill belt
J.Crew Biennal satchel in blue sea
Ralph Lauren Brenna II suede and mesh wingtips

I must note that the J.Crew skirt above is massively — and universally — flattering.  I own it in a different color, but I suddenly feel an urgent need to get it in red as well…

On the docket for the weekend:  Calling up my Dad, catching The Little Black Jacket in SoHo before it closes, dinner with a friend who is visiting from out of town, and working on bettering my pace with the Nike+ GPS app.  Aspirational goals include: catching up on the Mad Men finale, which I missed (horrors!) and the Winston Churchill exhibition, Churchill: The Power of Words, at the Morgan Library.  Oh, and tacos.  Tacos are always on the wishlist…

Have a lovely weekend!
