A Bit of Sinatra

Thus far, March has been a month of Frank Sinatra and his contemporaries. Ella, Dean, and the rest of them have been in heavy rotation, but it is Frank I always return to. I especially love the live recordings and this collection of concert recordings in Vegas is my favorite: all smoky smartass swinging standards. Perfection. Much like these photos by John Dominis from the same era…
With daughter Nancy and Yul Brenner.
I quite enjoy the gentleman on the right and how high his trousers are.
Frank at top left, with Quincy Jones.
Shawl-collar tuxedo fest, with Ed Sullivan!
Taken by John Dominis from 1964 to 1965 for Life Magazine.
Mine eyes are agog re: the Barbicide® … !!!
Cool beans, lady!!!
I LOVE Frank. If we had had a baby boy instead of a little girl, he would’ve been called Frank. Even if my husband said no. I’ve got loads of old Sinatra vinyl. I love it.
Awesome. To this end, it would be worth noting: (i) the greatest magazine profile ever written; Gay Talese on Frank Sinatra: “Frank Sinatra has a Cold” – http://www.esquire.com/features/ESQ1003-OCT_SINATRA_rev_ and (ii) the best radio show going (rife with hour-plus long stretches of live Sinatra) – http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/31/nyregion/for-jonathan-schwartz-sundays-are-for-spinning-cds.html
These are both so awesome, Amit. Thanks so much for sharing!
